When I was at school we were lucky enough to have penpals. Penpals are friends from anywhere in the world that you write to regularly. Nowadays, we still have penpals but instead of using snail mail to communicate, we use the internet. So our friends are now called ePals.
As part of the student blogging challenge we have to visit the blogs on either side of ours on the list. So we will visit Miss B’s Block and Otorohanga Primary School’s blog and comment on the things that they write for the challenge on their blog. You can find the link to their blogs on our blogroll.

I have also just been talking to two teachers who would like for our grades to be ePals: one class is from Shanghai, China, and the other class is from Canada! Soon we will have lots of ePals from around the world. I’m looking forward to learning about school and life in their countries.

What are you looking forward to?

Melbourne at Night
This year I have entered our class in the Student Blogging Challenge. Each year two challenges are run (one in March and the other in September). The challenge runs for 10 weeks. Each week a new task will be posted and each student will have the chance to comment on it.
This challenge is particularly great because it is a global project. This means that we can visit blogs from other classes around the world to see what they have posted, and they can visit our blog too!
As a practice run, I have set a challenge for us to complete so we can refresh our memories of how to write great blog comments. Melbourne has recently been voted the World’s Most Liveable City again. I would like you to suggest 3 reasons why you think we won (these will most likely be reasons why you like Melbourne too).
Happy Commenting!

On Monday we talked about what fractions were and what they looked like. We played an online activity called Fraction Flags which showed us that fractions can come in many shapes, sizes and patterns.

Fraction Flags Activity
Your challenge is to go back to this activity and tally how many different pattern combinations you can come up with to show 1/2, and then comment on this post with your result. What did you notice? What did you learn about fractions?

On Fridays 3/4L and 3/4M have an hour of inquiry learning that they have called ‘Hour of Power’. This is a time for the students to create a project or make a model of something, on a topic of their choice. Last weekend, Miss L made a trip down to Resource Rescue in Bayswater. For a small fee she filled a trolley with heaps of factory offcuts and seconds for the kids to use as craft supplies.
The kids’ projects were a huge success with these new craft materials. What do you think of their work?

Welcome to Blogging Competition #1!
You may have noticed at the top of the blog that we have a class slogan (“The best class at the best school in the universe!). Your job is to create a new slogan for our blog. It has to tell the world about how awesome we are.
Rules: You may only write 1 sentence. Make sure that you use appropriate language and that you remember to use punctuation.
The best slogan will be posted at the top of our blog. Entries close 23rd May. Winner will be drawn 25th May. Good Luck!

This week we have been looking at Dreamtime Stories. Aboriginal people created Dreamtime stories to explain how the world, and the plants and animals were created. They often have a lesson or moral.
Here is a video of a Dreamtime story. What lesson does it teach? Is there a moral to the story?

Welcome to the blog page for 34L!
I’m really excited about setting up this blog for our classroom – I hope you like it! If you have a moment, take the poll on the right sidebar of this page to let me know if this page rocks or not!
This page is like the home page of a website – this is where all my posts and your comments to my posts will be found.
On the right side of the page are a few things known as “widgets”. There is a poll, a clock with the current time, the (hopefully accurate!) weather, and images of the books that we are reading in the classroom. Under that you’ll see our blog roll (what’s this?), a list of blogs we like, and a map of where our visitors come from.
At the very top of the page is a cloud with the pages of this blog. Click on these to access more information.
Happy Blogging!
